A Chocolate a Day!

When people ask me what my biggest fear is, I usually reply with something pithy like,  “I’m most afraid of running out of chocolate.”

If you’re like me and have a chocolate monkey on your back and are hopelessly addicted to dark chocolate, this makes perfect sense. If you’re thinking that this is a little scary and sounds like someone who needs professional help, all I can say is that there’s evidence now that chocolate is not only a great anti-oxidant, it also helps keep your heart healthy.  So there…. if you need an excuse when your family raises their eyebrows and makes comments about the need for the daily dose of chocolate, you can point to a recent study that found that eating chocolate decreased strokes and heart attacks.

Some researchers believe that it’s the flavonoids in chocolate, my money is on another theory. People who eat chocolate are happier!  I’m sure it has something to do with the effects on serotonin receptors in the brain. It’s just a theory, but one that I can live with.
